To whom it may concern, I have the old style Ida Rudder on my 17 and plan to sell it for their newer version. If a kickup rudder is all you want than that is what this is. It uses a line to raise the bottom half of the rudder, I use it to hold the rudder blade up just a bit when launching and retrieving the boat. Asking $250 plus shipping. I started with the stock wooden rudder and the shape of this Ida rudder really does seem to add to the performance of the boat. Pictures upon request. Hi Tom, I'd like some pix if you've got some that show it well. The Ruddercraft is way out of my budget...this might be a bit more within it! Where are you (zip code) for estimating shipping? Is this the "original" up-down sliding rod rudder from M-17's? thanks, John S. On 01/09/2016 07:06 PM, Thomas Buzzi wrote:

I usually rig the boat, put it in the water, then lean over the transom to set the rudder in the pintels. It is a bit awkward, and I will be interested to read if another M-boater has come up with a better method. At this point I have the one piece fixed wood rudder that came with Pajarita, so installing rudder after launch is my only viable option. Doesn't seem a big deal to me to drop the rudder on from the cockpit. And, maybe mine is lighter than some of the fancy kick-ups with the extra metal & hardware? And it floats, so the closer I get to having it in place the less it weighs. Unlike the outboard... :-) cheers, John S. On 01/12/2016 07:20 PM, Steve Trapp wrote:

My first Monty had a stainless steel rod that slid down into four pintles, two on the rudder, two on the transom. It was the wooden type but I still found it much easier to manhandle it from the ramp and hoist it with the lifting mechanism provided by Jerry, namely a hole in the rudder with a rope leading from one cleat to another on either side of the rudder on top of the transom. The high density plastic rudder plus the rudder stock made of the same material will require setting it up on the dock before launch. It is heavier than the wooden one. The hydrodynamics of the blade make the extra effort worth it. If I had kept the stock wooden one I would have done what my buddy down the street did with his Monty, he cut a couple of parallel flats on his rudder to accept the cheek pieces after he cut the bottom away from the top. He made the cut a circular one with the center of the arc coinciding with the pivot bolt he then installed. He is pretty good with a router to cut the parallel flats. <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> This email has been sent from a virus-free computer protected by Avast. www.avast.com <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> <#DDB4FAA8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2> On Tue, Jan 12, 2016 at 10:22 PM, John Schinnerer <john@eco-living.net> wrote:

Me too, have the original wood rudder on my M-15 and I do the same as you describe. I also like the natural wood look of the original rudder, but I have sanded and re-varnished a few times, an off season project. Yes, but if you have a Ruddercraft rudder and mast carrier, you can Trailer the boat with the Rudder mounted. Saves time and your back....:-) Bob
Sure, mount the rudder on dry land at the ramp. Raise it so it will not catch on the ramp, use a tiller minder to keep the rudder amidships and then back it in. I have launched the 17 scores of times just like that and it works fine.
