What outfits do you guys use for ordering bits and pieces (and why)? I'll go first: I order quite a bit from www.fisheriessupply.com. Good help on the phone (I usually talk to somebody before ordering) and the prices are okay. Certainly better than you-know-who. t _/\_

Duckworks has interesting items for small boats at very reasonable prices. I've also found stuff at Defender Marine at better prices than you-know-who. Of course, you-know-who has two local stores, so when time is of the essence ....... In addition to Defender there are several other very good resources here on the east coast: Hamilton Marine in ME Rigging Only in MA Jamestown Distributors in RI Boat Builder Central in FL Island Nautical (fka JSI) in FL Not on the east coast, but I also like Mauri Pro in TX. Speaking of Defender, be sure to shop their annual warehouse sale. They call it a warehouse sale but the discounts are available on-line too. You can save a ton on big ticket items like roller furlers. -----Original Message----- From: Thomas Buzzi Sent: Thursday, January 16, 2014 7:52 PM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: On-line marine equipment resources Defender Industries, Sailboat Owners.com,Gray Enterprises Ports &Parts, Boatersland Marine, BuyBoat Hardware and Supplies from SailCare, Wholesale Marine, JMS Online Marine Supply. George, I assume that if Sailcare reconditions a set of sail it involves shipping. Where are they located? Any notion of shipping costs? Not listed yet, Home Depot. They had some very reasonable prices on marine shore power lines. I was shocked (no, not by the product) that they had anything at all marine related but I found it online and cheapest of any supplier. And the shore power line and other components have been working great. I use the West Marine at my marina quite a bit as they have folks there with great advice and most are live aboards at my marina so they also appreciate saving a buck and know all the local shops and contractors. And you cannot beat having a well stocked store just a short walk from you boat project. But that is not online... All the best, Robbin
If there is real store at your marina, consider yourself lucky. I think walking into a store where I can talk to a real person and see, maybe touch, the real product beats online anyday, anytime, and anyplace. I suspect a WM at a marina is a lot more helpful than the one I have near me. I believe my folks cater mostly to the powerboat crowd (judging from their inventory). Thanks for all the on-line suggestions, M-boaters. Tom, I just wanted to add Annapolis Performance Sailing as a vendor that has unusual items for sailboats. They tend to carry the quality brands that are more expensive for a particular item, but they usually have a greater range of sizes for blocks, etc. Cheers, Tom Jenkins On Jan 24, 2014, at 1:31 PM, Tom Smith wrote:
