Has anyone changed from bolt rope to slugs on there sails . The reason I'm asking is when I lower my sails when reefing ,or going to motor , I have to reinstall the bolt rope .So I was thinking of mabe going to slugs and a mastgate . So what are the thoughts or been there done that , and no good . Thanks in advance for any advice Klaas
I did that on an Aquarious 23 and loved it. Woild never go back. Ask an expert on how many and how far apart to install grommets. -----Original Message----- From: santaklaas@telus.net To: Montgomery boats groups <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thu, Jul 12, 2012 5:15 am Subject: M_Boats: Bolt rope Vs slugs Has anyone changed from bolt rope to slugs on there sails . We just had a sailmaker install slugs after we couldn't get the sail down without removing the boom. We were hoisting the sails in our "dry run" and it was just impossible to get the sail down as far as it needed to go. We didn't want it to happen again. Haven't put it up again so can't report on the slugs but figure they will work. Pam On Jul 12, 2012, at 9:14 AM, Klaas wrote:

I had the conversion done on my Sandpiper 565 and once I worked out the ding in my mast track, the slugs worked great. On Thursday, July 12, 2012, Klaas <santaklaas@telus.net> wrote:

I bought the slugs from sailrite and they installed over the bolt rope, instructions are on their site, I used the ones the screw together. Piece of cake install, now I can flake the main and reef without a problem and if I race I can remove them and use the bolt rope, anyway that was the thought, I have not removed since I installed them. It really makes it easier.
