Upon closer eye-balling of my "new" (1981 #176) Monty 15, I find no cockpit scuppers. I cannot believe that this could be a design flaw (not typical of Jerry), but am a bit concerned about blue water soaking my feet (or worse). Ought I worry about this and retro-fit scuppers in the cockpit? If so, have others done this job and is there any type of "how-to" guide out there in Monty Land? Many thanks in advance....... *Jeff+* Molōn labe!
Jeff...the cockpit on the 15 drains just fine thru the centerboard rope hole. Bob

Consider using stainless steel kitchen scrubbing pads. No rust and they filter small bits of debris that could eventually scratch and jamb the CB. ---Larry with old 189 (M-15) -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Bob Eeg Sent: Wednesday, February 29, 2012 6:26 AM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: M_Boats: Cockpit Scuppers? Larry, Do you mean to stuff a bit of the scrubbing pad into the lanyard hole as a filter? Doesn't seem to be lost of room to spare there with the line down through the hole. Jeff 2012/3/1 Conbert Benneck <chbenneck@sbcglobal.net>

Jeff, I am referring to the M-15 only. The scupper under the CB lanyard is double sided. Take two stainless steel scrubbing pads and gently insert one left and right. Don't push them too far. They will filter out all that small debris that could scratch, jamb your CB. Rinse out after each day of sailing. They work pretty well for pot scrubbing too! ---LH in old 189 -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jeffrey Johnston Sent: Thursday, March 01, 2012 11:15 AM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: Cockpit Scuppers? My scupper (lanyard hole) is covered by a piece of varnished teak which must be bonded somehow to the cockpit sole. The hole therein is not much larger than the lanyard. Has this piece of teak been added by a PO perhaps (not OEM)? And, is the hole beneath it significantly larger to fit the stainless "strainers" ? If your monty is conventional there is room to stuff and compress a stainless steel scrubber on both sides. Mine works and it stays in. Yup, upon closer look, I see how the cockpit floor actually slopes downward under the board which tops the hole. Great idea! Boy, I notice something good about this little boat nearly daily. Thanks, Jeff+ On Mar 13, 2012 5:46 PM, "Hughston, Larry@DGS" <Larry.Hughston@dgs.ca.gov> wrote:

Jeff, Not to worry!! On the M-15, you will find that 'Blue Water' or in my case, murky water (Chesapeake Bay) comes in and out from the pendant hole. Depending on your point of sail and the amount of chop, you will find that water comes into the cockpit via the pendant hole. There are various ways to limit this, but you'll never avoid it. Keep in mind, the water also escapes through the pendant hole, so you really don't want to block it 100% anyway. This year, I am installing floor matts in the cockpit, which raises the floor about 1" or less. This should keep my feet a little dryer..........or not.........either way, I'm sailing and isn't that what really counts? as stated already any water in the cockpit will drain out of the pendent hole at the companionway. when the boat is level and if water is collecting at the stern she is telling you need to get weight forward. i discuss the cockpit 'water on the toes' issue in my description of the M15 - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred/aboutthem15.htm (about 1/2 way down the above linked page.) if your are experiencing siphoning you can limit the water coming up by raising the centerboard a few inches. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage Marine - www.sagemarine.com --- On Wed, 2/29/12, Jeffrey Johnston <frjeff@gmail.com> wrote:
