I just recently bought a strap for something like 8 bucks from WestMarine. It was on the closeout rack, marked down from something like $27.99. It is a seat belt material quality nylon strap probably 16 ft long or so. No ratchet, just two hooks and a buckle that works like a trucker's chain tie down. Hook to the trailer rails, pull the strap through the buckle, lightly snug, and flip the buckle over. It works very well. The only problem is the left over strap, which I tuck into one of the cockpit lazarettes....
Note to Jerry: Include tie-down eyes on the 16 that keep the strap away from the hull Depending on the hull/deck joint design, maybe padeyes hidden under the flange? Tod Mills M17 #408, 1987 galley model BuscaBrisas

I also have one of these straps. I like the wide strap but have always been concerned that the buckle could flip open in transit or an emergency. The belt would then be essentially useless. I put a pinch clamp on the buckle and the loose end of the strap, hoping it will help keep it closed. Bob Becker M15 #208 Blake Reimer wrote:

Hi Bob, I used long flat straps as a hold-downs across the forward deck and across the cockpit of our M15. To solve the problem you worry about, after getting the strap tight, I would use the loose end to make a knot over the buckle so that the buckle couldn't inadvertently pop open. It never did in all our trailering. Connie
