We are taking our M17-635 Eidolon to Gray's Harbor this weekend to experience a bit of that part of Washington state. We have never been, but it looks like a very interesting place to sail. We are going to stay/put in at the Westport Marina at the Port of Gray's Harbor, which is just across the mouth of the harbor from Ocean Shores. Probably will stick to sailing inside the harbor, going over to Hoquiam and up to Ocean shores. I guess if the conditions are OK we could duck out into the *real* Pacific just to say we have taken our Monty there :-p Again, I would love to see any of you there, but I realize it is rather a long drive from Seattle (about 2.5 hours). We did go out on Saturday from Elliot Bay and sailed to Blake Island. There was a minus 2 foot tide at around 2pm, and a much larger (44 foot?) sailboat was stuck in the sand at the entrance to the state park marina at the Tillicum Village. We smirked a bit to ourselves as we sailed our M17 around her and into the marina, where we moored at the state run docks (a good reason to get the $60 year pass for state docks and bouys). Since we have never done the touristy Tillicum Village salmon dinner and performance thing, we did that and really were stuffed afterward (buy a loaf of the dark bread there, it is REALLY good). Rick
Rick (and others): I put SCRED in the water saturday at des moines. sailed around east passage down towards tacoma for about 6ish hours (when the wind died). blake island is a great place (meaning that when the weather is nice way to popular and many users don't know proper 'dock' etiquette). two years ago i had 4-7 year-olds running past SCRED when at the dock until 1-2AM! this was after one of the parents spent two hours on their cell phone talking at a high volume right next to SCRED! ... i digress. scanning VHF heard the big sailboat with 8' keel in 6' water ... so much for someone knowing how to read a chart and tide table. the owner/captain stated to the USCG, "no visible damage." i hate to think the stresses involved when TONS of boat stopped in a a very short distance ... that keel may have some interesting cracks and and issues at keel/hull joint and/or keelbolts. thought of you and EIDOLON wondering if you sailed by waving at the 'big fancy boat' stuck on the hard ;-) enjoy gray's harbor ... wind blows A LOT there. dave scobie M15 #288 - SCRED visit Scred's www-site: www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred Richard Everett <rick@skyko.com> wrote: We did go out on Saturday from Elliot Bay and sailed to Blake Island.
