Ok skippers...., here we go! The SV Pelican is moored in a slip but I need to keep the trailer at my house. I live in HOA community so parking in out front is out of the cards and I to cheap to pay go storage yard. While At Home Depot I thought if I could rotate the trailer 90 deg About the long axis and remove the wheels I could store it in my 6 ft side yard on a Home Depot lumber cart ( or similar to) in my side yard. 6ft I am pushing 80 yrs and sanity may be the second thing to go Any of you skippers this nuts? Sounds like a plan that’ll work. One of those Harbor Freight trailers rated for a 1,000 #s, reworked may do it. Some even fold up and will fit against the garage wall. Your idea could work quite well. Hi Jim, Your question depends highly on the design of your trailer, and each trailer is very different. For a lot of the lighter weight, or more modular trailers, breaking it down and storing it is viable, and the weight could be as low as a few hundred pounds. You should check Amazon. There are a number of trailers there. I bought one for kayaks but one same frame as mine for small boat. For boat $1439. I am impressed with quality and ease of putting together. Also think the width will work for you. I know the Harbor Freight trailer and my opinion is Malone is far superior. Been a best buy for me and like the one I have because easy to maneuver. Charlie Adams Sent from my iPad

I reread your message and you mentioned you are 80. You’re still young since I will be 84 next month. Own what I consider the best M17 out there. Sold it last year; first $17,000 and second $18,000 but backed out of both deals. Problem is I have to many interests as I also own a Drascombe Lugger that I’ve traveled with in Europe, Northwest and East Coast. I won’t go into my other interest. Getting a new hip in a week after being told I needed one 8 years ago. Haven’t had time to mess with it. I live in upper NY and doctor tells me I will able to do anything end of May. Summer starts here in June so I will have 4 months of sailing. My advise Jim is forget about the 80 since I am a believer you are as old as you think you are. I go to two different gyms at least 4 times a week. I get motivated talking sailing and the gym is the same for me. Listen to your elder. Lie about your age as I tell everyone I’m 55. This whole thing makes me think of that scene from James Bond "Diamonds are forever" where he getsthe car on two wheels to go through the alley. I just never thought the bad guys would be the HOA police and you'dbe driving a boat trailer. I can hear the theme music now. If it was me and I was committed to do this (I don't mean committed to the insane asylum.) I don't think I would bother taking the regular wheels off in less I had to. You'll have the fenders to deal with anyway. I think I would clamp on some wheelbarrow axles with some 3/4 ready rod or bolt or pipe or something (use big wheels) andsome 2 big ubolts, perpendicular to the normal wheels and use the trailer itself as the frame. Then you could leave the axle on as a conversation piece on how you ended up with an upside down trailer one day. Think about some sort of lashed on pole or something so that if it starts to tip it will only go so far. Be careful. You don't wanna have to explain this to your wife if all goes sideways....or whatever. Just pony up for the storage yard, all of this extra faff is ridiculous. If you hurt yourself it will ruin your mobility, and at 80 that is a disaster, just to save a few bucks. Play the long game, it’s not worth getting hurt. www.rustyknorr.weebly.com

No idea how much an M15 trailer weighs (depends on who made it, with what materials), but it's going to be enough that you'll want at least a couple young strong guys to do the heavy tilting/lifting if you try sliding it into your side yard. If the side yard is paved, you could use heavy duty furniture, or vehicle wheel, dolly. If not paved, not gonna work as their small hard wheels won't roll on soft ground. You'd need a dolly with big pneumatic wheels like some soft-surface hand trucks have. Alternate idea - how wide is your trailer sitting flat? Under 8 ft I assume for road legal without special permits. How much would you have to tilt it side to side (one wheel up, one still on ground) to get the horizontal width down to under 6 ft? You could set up a plank on supports on one side of the side yard, for one wheel to rest up high enough so it will fit diagonally. No need to remove wheels or have some other cart to put it on. In other words the side yard is the base of a right triangle, the height of the ramp is the vertical side, and the trailer width is the hypotenuse Here's a calculator that will help you figure it out: https://www.omnicalculator.com/math/hypotenuse "b" is width of side yard. "a" is height of support for wheel on one side. "c" is trailer frame/width of trailer (wheel to wheel unless something sticks out wider than wheels). A bit less than 45 degrees tilt will get a 7.5 ft wide trailer into a 5.5 ft wide space. If there's enough room out in front of the side yard, you can have a plank ramp going up from ground level to the elevated plank for the high wheel. Just roll it back...one wheel goes up, the other stays down. That is where the several strong young guys still come into play though, getting it rolled back in there. cheers, John On 2/25/24 10:07, casioqv@usermail.com wrote:
