Center board pendant
Just thought I'd chime in. I replaced my pendant after it broke ( on trailer, thankfully) by enlarging the hole it protrudes from on top of the case. I then used copper wire to fish a new one thru the racelite shackle on the board and double the pendant back on itself. I then sewed the two parts together and served over. It has held for two busy seasons, with board supported by pendant both summers while lying at mooring. I now need to plug the hole with a foam plug to keep water from gushing out while in a chop. No need to lift boat, etc. I too shimmed my board with 1/4" delrin. I think the piece was 4"x8" with a slot cut in the 8" side at an angle. I slid it over the pin and it has been there for 5 years. No more banging around in the case. Jon Barber Monty17 Ol'44
Thanks for the info Jon! The shim/washer on my CB pivot point is nowhere near 1/4" thick - haven't measured it, but ~1/8" probably. And whoever put it there had the board out, or at least had the pivot bolt out, as there's only the hole in the middle. My pennant is quite fat, definitely more than 5/16", 3/8" line at least. The upside is that it so nearly fills the hole at top of CB trunk that there is no splash thru the hole. If it's choppy, the first foot or two of the pennant inside will get damp from water wicking along it, but that's all. Another upside is easy purchase on the winch. The only downside I see - big fat knot at shackle - is taken care of, as Jerry suggested, by removing the core to tie it to the shackle. Just did a test on that, I cut off that big fat bowline plus some of the more worn section, and then removed the core for a good foot or so. Now I can get a pretty compact double-hitch around the shackle with the coreless part. cheers, John On 4/29/25 13:21, Jon Barber wrote:
