Re: M_Boats: M23 ballast
Gerry: Lots of different stories on the M23s. Jerry said the last few were lead though I can't remember reading a report from anyone that has a M23 that theirs came 'from the factory' with lead. My base assumption, unless a past owner did a repair as Sean did, all of Jerry's M23s are steel ballast. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner #288 - http://www.freewebs.com/m15-name-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - http://www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage 17 #1 - AIR BORN - http://sagemarine.us/sage_17.html :: Sage 15 sloop #001 - ASOLARE - http://sagemarine.us/sage_15.html :: SageCat #000 - SAGECAT - http://sagemarine.us/sagecat.html On Wed, Mar 29, 2017 at 5:11 PM, Gerald Wyatt <wyattgs@gmail.com> wrote:
Hi Dave,
Thanks. Did Jerry use steel or lead on the M23s? The old brochure on the MSOG Photo Site indicates lead, but I have heard stories of steel ballast in them. I think Dauntless had her ballast changed out.
Just curious if you knew with all your time working with the boats.
Gerry
Nearly all the 23's were lead- I made two "budget" boats (they both went to havasu) that were steel; Dean's boat much have been one of these. If you are thinking of buying one, put a magnet on it. -----Original Message----- From: Dave Scobie Sent: Wednesday, March 29, 2017 4:22 PM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: M23 ballast Gerry: Lots of different stories on the M23s.
