Perhaps the "1" before the 7 is actually the letter I. That would mean your boat was built in September (I is the 9th letter) of 1987. The last two digits, 88, mean that your boat is a 1988 model.
On a fun note. We desert dwellers are planning a Monty outing at Roosevelt Lake (the water is up after all the rains we've had) for the weekend of the 12th. Should be about 4 of us. Steve Eshelman says he has a new camera and will take pictures.
