Bobbie, I just bought a non-map GPS 76 due to the limited map coverage and high price. The salesman at West Marine said they come with 1 area map. Is an area the east coast? - answer was no. Is an area the Chesapeake bay? - the answer was no. Is an area a single chart - answer was depends on which chart. I wanted it to cover Maine and MD - extra $130. Basically you needed to buy the Blue Chart for the area of interest as Howard indicated - beware. I used the GPS76 this weekend and was annoyed by the warning message you had to acknowledge every time you turned it on. The warning message basically says the unit is not to be used for navigation. - go figure. I was impressed with the navaids in the database. More of the Nav aids were in the GPS 76 than were on my Charts. The level of detailed coverage is quite good but all Green day markers on poles are labeled as sgp or some such - stands for square green pole, trp - triangular red pole. There are many FG4S symbols - Flashing green 4 seconds and without a map you have to figure out which one is which by the lat and long. You can rename the navaids as a waypoint. All in all I was happy with mapless, black and white, high resolution GPS for a mere $200 verses the limited map, color high resolution for $500. Thanks, Doug Kelch --- Bobbie Mayer <barbaram@csufresno.edu> wrote:
Does anyone have this model? What I am curious about is the coverage that is built in to it as far as maps and waterways.
