John, Years ago when we made short cruises in our Balboa 20 with our 3 young children we carried along several items to keep them entertained. While underway, they had books, magnetic board games and art supplies to entertain themselves and fishing lines to troll with. When we anchored at out destination, we broke out the "Science Kits" which consisted of dip nets, buckets, underwater viewers, magnifying glasses and a cheap microscope. They spent many happy hours gathering specimens, examining them and drawing pictures of their finds. Today, I would include inexpensive digital cameras and an old laptop for displaying the pictures. Gameboys are great to occupy the "Quite time" after dark. A portable DVD palyer and a selection of movies might be a consideration if there was sufficient battery power to handle it. A solar panel shoud provide enough charge to allow a "bedtime movie". Best of all was having time to really listen to what they had to say and get to really know them. These days, we are enjoying our Grandkids in the same way. Whitebeard, M17 #14, Griselda

Hello All,
In three weeks I will be heading off for a two week cruise around Isle Royale with my two daughters who are 6 and 7 years old. We did a 3 1/2 day shake down cruise a couple of weeks ago and apart from the vomiting, burnt finger, and falling off the dock into the water I would have to say it was a success...
Besides improved safety, my plan for the trip is to have plenty to occupy them and to sail every other day around the island so that there is plenty of time for beach combing and other fun stuff.
Has anyone else sailed on longer cruises with their kids? Any advice?
Respectfully,
