M15 SCRED had a tiller tamer that was ~1/4 broken when purchased. i fiddled at making it 'work' to some extent. SCRED's was located on the 'bottom' of the tiller. the weakness of this location, IMO, is if you 'lift' the tiller to raise the rudder you put stress on the 'tamer' causing it to break. i did this to terminal affect causing 'bits' of tiller tamer to fly around the cockpit. in time i'm going to move to the a 'tamer' that uses a cleat with a line. i have seen this work with good results on gary hyde's M17. dave scobie M15 #288 - SCRED visit Scred's www-site: http://www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred paint4real@aol.com wrote: The ad at the link notes that the device could be located on top or underneath the tiller, so perhaps the latter configuration would solve the problem of tangling with the 15's traveler. . . . -----Original Message----- From: wcampion@aol.com To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Mon, 16 Jun 2008 10:04 am Subject: Re: M_Boats: Tiller Tamer Rick, I have the same style tiller tamer on my M-15.? For the most part it works well, however, for?all you other M-15 owners, be aware that this type of tiller tamer has a tendency to catch the traveler during tacking in light air.?? Paid $59 for mine, but I see they've dropped the price to $49, free shipping. They delivered quickly, and I think it's a great device. Once you've got it trimmed right, you can leave the helm for several minutes. Rick M-17 #633 Lynne L
