Hi Sean, It sure would be nice to save that 170. Its a great light air sail. By the way... I sailed Clarity under her red and white spinnaker a couple of times this summer. My first time spinnaker sailing! It was fun to see that thing come out of the bag and open up with no twists. I definitely could use more practice and need to tweak the rigging a bit. Sounds like the rudder issue has been fairly common judging by some of the responses. I have seen Clarity in the SCA event page. Don't know if you noticed but I'm wearing my Monty T-shirt that I ordered from you in that picture. That was taken in July at our regatta. Clarity did well in the races (warped rudder and all). We are planning to come on the San Juan cruise 2009. While I got alot of the basics on Clarity done last year and got her sailing, she still is a work in progress. The rudder is just one of the many things I will be trying to get done this year. The winter months here make it tough to get some things done. Jeff, My experience with the older mylar sails was the same. My M17 had a Mylar genny that shedded mylar like crazy. I don't know of a fix for it , but someone might.
As for the rudder, mine is definitely symmetrical. I don't know why you would ever want an asymmetrical shape, but maybe there's a reason. Jerry???
By the way folks....for those wondering whose Montgomery 23 has been shown on the Event Calendar page of the last few SCA's (Pg 46 on this current edition), it belongs to Jeff and his lovely wife Chris. 'Jo and I had the pleasure of meeting them on their return trip to Washington State from picking "Clarity" up in Tucson, AZ where they purchased her. It was nostalgic for me to see Clarity as she is THE 23 that got me interested in Montgomerys some 20-25 years ago. She belonged to a good friend of mine, a Montgomery dealer, and I sailed on her many times dreaming of the day I might finally have my own. Clarity wasn't quite ready to be re-launched when they visited us, so we all jumped on Dauntless for a jaunt around the lake. I can't wait to see Clarity in person after all the work Jeff has done to her! Hopefully we will see each other in June for the San Juans/Gulf Islands cruise. **************Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place. Try it now.
