Dale, My M17 battens live in the sail full time. They aren't very long, so they don't seem to get in the way. You could just sew the pocket closed instead of replacing the elastic. I need to replace the battens in my M17 main. I got the boat from the insurance company for salvage but she is seaworthy now. I cannot find a sample to get three more battens. What size battens do M17's have in general or point me in the right direction to get the right ones? Dale Superior Sal M17
