I think Jerry should convince the potential owner of this 1 off 21' boat that lapstrake is the way to go. Building a 1 off lapstrake a a challenging proposal and Jerry doesn't think he's smart enough to do it, but he is. You know the old saying, give me a cattle prod with enough power and I can make an old bull dance the Charleston . Anyway, we could pay this owner or give him a free paint job and use his new boat a a plug... Just day dreaming.... ________________________________ From: jerry montgomery <jerry@jerrymontgomery.org> To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 2, 2013 12:33 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: questions on a 21' Yes, this would be a one-off, probably not lapstrake because the interested party wants to cold mold it out of cedar, whicj is exactly how I would go about it I've never cold molded a hull before, but I've cold molded several plugs and it goes very fast. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Thomas Howe" <Thomas@ThomasHoweOnline.com> To: "'For and about Montgomery Sailboats'" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 02, 2013 12:01 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: questions on a 21'
See, Jerry, all you have to do is ask a few simpe questions and the floodgates open! I was under the distinct impression that this is not a production boat, that you MIGHT do a build on a one-off basis, and that we shouldn't be ordering our monogrammed M-21 shirts yet. But those wily folks at Sage Marine might take note of the interest that you stirred up..

Jerry,
A few questions
1. Cockpit side lockers being open to below decks like the M17/15 and Sage 15, or closed off? Or one closed off, one open? 2. Shallow anchor locker on the fore deck? Shallow enough that the forward section of the V berth is still useful. 3. 2 sets of jib sheet tracks for genoa and working jib? 4. Depending on the keel/centerboard/daggerboard position, space for a cooler to slide under the cockpit, or be mounted as a companionway step?
Thanks,
Bill Wickett Makin' Time M17 #622

Wider than the 23! A bit wider than the M or S 17's, but not much. They're OK, and the wider the decks are the more headbanging below.

This boat will be quite a bit smaller than the 23 but probably will have more beam. Definately the side decks will be wider!

Hi Jerry,
I am perfectly comfortable with the 8'' beam on my M23. The only real issue is the narrow port and starboard side decks next to the coach roof. These require a bit of carefully stepping ______________________________**______________________________ Woman is 53 But Looks 25 Mom reveals 1 simple wrinkle trick that has angered doctors...
