I too have often wondered if the sticking board problem on some boats is due to marine growth and not a swelling of the cast iron ballast in the trunk.

The old M-17 has been sitting in her slip, unused, for over two years. I am concerned that some marine critters have attached themselves to the inside of the trunk. If they are hard shelled they might bind the board. How much of the trunk is underwater? If it is only the first couple of inches, there might not be enough growth to matter. We will see.
