They're a bit faster because you can carry a bit more sail area, but youi've got to hjave them adjusted just right. I know that Kern Ferguson touted them for any boat that doesn't have a backstay. A good point is that sails will last longer because they don't luff every time you tack, but since they cost more to begin with, that might not really be an advantage. A bad point is that they are heavier, which takes its toll thru more healing and pitching. They aren't as good in a drifter because it's hard to get enough compression in the battens to keep some draft in the sail, but maybe the additional area would compensate. The catamaran people love them, but part of that is because the compression of the battens helps the mast rotate. This whole subject is a good way to start an argument! jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Hall" <bert.hall@rogers.com> To: "Montgomery Owners" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, July 30, 2012 7:13 PM Subject: M_Boats: Sail Battens Hello All, Has anyone out there an opinion on whether or not full battens area good idea for the M-15 main?
