Bluebird Frank Durant and I are planning a cruise on Moosehead Lake, Maine from July 10-19. If anyone is interested in joining us let me know. Also, we'd be interested in any first hand experiences on the lake and some nice secure launch sites. We don't really have any preferences. We'll probably just go with the best wind and explore what comes and fish.

Hi Rick, Katrina and I sent a delightful week up on Moosehead Lake sailing in our M15. We stayed at a cottage in Rockwood, on the eastern side of the lake. There was an excellent wide paved ramp there with ample parking for cars and trailers. Check with Maine Tourist Information, they should be able to give you the locations of the Moosehead Lake launch ramps. We had originally intended to use the docks at the cottage we rented, but low water level in the lake prevented that, so instead, we rigged the boat, launched and day sailed, then hauled it out - rigged - in the evening and left the boat at the launch ramp. There was very little traffic, and we never had a problem. On a very windy day, we didn't go sailing, but instead drove to Quebec, a most interesting visit, and easily done as a day trip. Just be extremely careful driving in the area at night. Moose wander about, and you don't want to hit a moose. The hood of the car goes right under the moose's belly and the car's windshield hit the body..... The moose, weighing about 1500 lbs, wins that battle. Sailing on Moosehead Lake was delightful. There were a few fishermen trolling very slowly, otherwise peace and quiet and a beautiful sailing area. Have a great sail there. Connie
