Norm, I tried my new fish finder with the "plastic bag of water method" today. I had a good reading with the transducer under the starboard berth, at the rear-inboard corner. I just motored and did not sail. When loading the boat I asked my wife to get the cables from behind the car seat, however she did not get the transducer and I did not notice until we were out in the middle of the lake. So I made a quick trip out again just to check the sonar. The five foot alarm signaled well before I got to the trailer, with plenty of time to pull up the centerboard. My Braille method of finding obstacles is now history. I will try the fish finder again with the "silly putty method" on a non-holiday and see how it goes when she is heeled over. Have you mounted yours yet? steve Steve R. M-15 #119 Norm Lane wrote: I've been trying to figure out where to mount a depth sounder on my M15. I've had trouble before on another boat with the keel masking the signal when the boat was heeled over but I can't see a good place ahead or behind the keel. The area just ahead of the keel appears to be very very thick and I don't think behind the keel would leave the thing accessible. Where have people mounted transponders successfully?
