Doug et al, You missed the adventures of Bill, Mike and myself on Sunday evening.? It sure would have been?nice to have a good anchor!!??? My Danforth?once again had me drifting. ?When?the wind shifted, my anchor released and did not reset, hence I drifted.? At one time during the first squall with the pea sided hale falling, I looked outside my port window and saw Mike in his cockpit, passing me.? I thought, why is Mike motoring during the strom.? I ended up suiting up in my storm gear and heading out to see what was going on and notice that Mike and Bill where both where they started and I was well behind them heading for the oyster beds.? I hauled in my anchor and motored back to where I started and reset my anchor.? Mike didn't like the idea of being downwind of me since my anchor hasn't proved too reliable, so he moved.? During the second squall Sunday, I stayed topside just to make sure.? At that point, I decided that my?next upgrade will be?a 4 kg bruce!!!? Don't worry Mike, next time I will come prepared!!! The cruise was nice and once again very educational.? The weather pushed me well outside my comfort zone, but the Monty was well within her elements.? The only short coming I have found?with my M-boat so far is the operator!!? She can take it, I can't.? Skip Campion M-15 #210 "Wild Guppy" P.S.? For anyone wishing to attend a 'Doug Kelch" cruise.......remember to bring your hiking boats!!!!? You never know how many miles of country road you will be walking.? :-) -----Original Message----- From: Doug Kelch <doug_kelch@yahoo.com> To: Montgomery <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wed, 4 Jun 2008 8:14 am Subject: M_Boats: tickles my soul plagerized lyrics from the song "bubbly" It tickles my soul, from the bottom of my toes to the tip of my nose - what is it? Seeing the fleet of 6 Montgomery boats under sail in nice winds on the Cheasapeake cruise last week - 2 with white sail, 3 with tanbark, and 1 with egyptian cotton - a very pretty sight. We bring our own scenery. We saw very few boats out in this remote section of the Potomac river (4 miles wide) and its tributaries - Yecomico River. Another great criuse with good winds but unstable weather.: Friday winds were 10 - 15 with gusts to 25, Saturday tornado watch, winds 15 -20 with gusts to 30, Thunderstrom Saturday night with gust to 35 and very close lighting Sunday winds 8 - 12 with a vicious line squall/thunderstorm at 50kts (NOAA wind speed at Lewisetta VA near where we were) Monday winds were 12 - 18 but against the current so was bit bouncy. It sure was nice to have a good anchor. Al Williams had an 11lb bruce down and we had an bear of a time getting it out of the mud the next morning. We had to tie a line on to the chain and winch it to the max and it still would not come free. Had to get the winched line as tight as we could and then shift the weight to the opposite side. Anyway - another great cruise and feeling bubbly :-) Doug Kelch M15 #310 "Seas the Day" _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats
