George, I use a 4 HP Mariner on my M-15, which is a bit more power than one might need on a lake, but I sail where I have river currents, plus the tidal currents of Puget Sound, so I figure that I need enough kick when I need to go against the current. The 4 HP has a self contained gas tank, so I do not need to clutter the cockpit with a tank and hose, and it has forward-neutral-revese, which I consider to be essential when docking or getting on-off the trailer. I have a 3HP short shaft Yamaha that came with the boat. Looking at it I see that it does not have a shift lever of any sort not even a neutral to keep the boat from moving at the start up of the motor.
Does any one have a similar situation and how do you cope coming in to a dock, starting up, etc?
What do most of you use on a M15?
