Lacquer thinners come in three basic typesketones and esters, alcohols, and fast evaporating hydrocarbons. The first two are solvents the last group are extenders to dilute or assist in application of lacquer. First two groups are most probably the GOO Eaters. No dumb questions.

One more goo solution:

I've used lacquer thinner on my M15 on the gelcoat with no problem to clean off cetol, caulk and other stuff, including number goo.
