Tom: When I first got my M17 I put the Honda 2 hp from my M15 on it and seemed to get close to hull speed with it (~ 5 knots) at full throttle in calm water. You might want to consider the Yamaha 2.5 hp 4-stroke as another possibility. I bought a Yamaha 4 hp 4-stroke for my M17 to deal with the currents in the San Juan Islands and the Snake River, but a smaller motor would be desirable much of the time. --Gary Hyde 2005 M17 sailboat #637 'Hydeaway 2' We can't change the wind, but we can trim our sails. Hello M-sters,
Has anyone out there with a fully-loaded (electrical system, etc.) late-model M17 tried to push it with a 2 hp outboard? I know a 5 or 6 is better for long trips with no wind, but a 2 is so much lighter and easier to store that I am hoping it might be enough for maneuvering around marinas, etc., or even making a few miles in a pinch. I would do a test myself, but snow is approaching the garage eaves, and my 17 wishes to remain safely inside until the snow stops falling.
Thanks,
