Hi Tod, The answer to your question is very easy. German sailors, like German travelers roam the world (remember the German doctor that crossed the Atlantic in a foldboat?) and therefore any proper libation - whatever is available locally and is alcoholic is perfectly acceptable. The Klabautermann is not choosey at all. I've used bourbon, gin, rye whiskey, vodka here in the USA; cognac (in France), as well as the previously mentioned Northern European drinks. They all work. You just have to remember to give the libation to the Klabautermann prior to the start of the voyage to insure safe passage; good weather; and proper holding ground for your anchor when you arrive at your destination.
