Larry, When I traded my 1977 M17 for a bigger boat, the buyer understood that the M17 came with steel ballast rather than lead. He knew about the weak headstay fitting design and he called my attention to the original poor rudder setup. The buyer wasn't bowled over by a cast iron lifting keel or the plastic fittings. He chuckled at the undersized winches and cheap stock sails from the boat builder. He asked my how I drained the water from under the cabin sole and why the mast compression post was so badly designed. You call that a cockpit drain, he scolded? By this time my face was red and I was ready to flatten his nose. I said my prayers to the God of Wishfull Thinking and Pipe Dreams hoping for top dollar. Didn't happen...
