Tom,
Couldn't be better. Easy up, easy down, no-hassle operation. If it touches bottom, it goes back down by itself as soon as it's clear.

No Tom,
I've never heard of bending the stock opening and I'm not sure why you would want to do that. The mast gate doesn't need any change to the opening, and mounts on a shock cord inserted in two holes drilled in the mast. You can see it on mastgates.com. It's an easy installation.
Good luck,

Hi Rick, Is it true what they say about being able to bend out the stock opening in the mast for the bolt rope by simply tapping it back straight with a block and a hammer without cracking it? That seems like quite a trick.

Hi Tom,
I installed a mast gate this spring, and it really helps in handling the main. You don't have to mess with removing the sail stop, dropping a slug and replacing the stop (if you haven't dropped it OB) when you're reefing, etc. Should have done it years ago.
