My 1982 (new to me) M17 has the main sheet traveler in approximately the center of the cockpit and about 2/3 of the distance aft on the boom.

Has any one moved the traveler forward in the cockpit just prior to the cabin entrance, putting the Mainsheet approximately mid boom? I know the forces will increase and may require a 4-5:1 mainsheet
