My M17, #278 has a Plastimo Mini Contest mounted on the starboard bulkhead and a Standard Horizon knot meter mounted on the port side. The latter has never worked right, nor did the free replacement I got from SH. All things considered, would much rather have an intact bulkhead and hull bottom than a knot meter. GPS is much more functional. The Plastimo compass works well for heading, but just as important, angle of heel. On Dec 4, 2012, at 8:21 AM, Joe Murphy wrote:

Where is the best location for mounting a compass on a Montgomery 17? Type? We are thinking about a bulk head dual read card compass. At our local lake there is a Seaward Fox that has a compass on the port and starboard bulk head.
