For everyone's information, this is the reply I got back from Jeff, one of the techies at West System: Hello Tom, For the best results the epoxy should be applied to bare wood which would require the current finishes to be stripped off. The current finish will prevent the epoxy from bonding to the wood and will only adhere as well as the current finish. It is difficult to say how effective it will be when applied over the current finish. It also important to remember that the epoxy needs to have a UV protecting finish applied over it such as paint or varnish. If you have any other questions feel free to call or write.
