Hey Doug, What sort of "serious mods" are you considering? My main has a bolt rope and I am going to change to slugs and install a mast gate. The winds here off Corpus Christi vary from nothing (10% of the time) to about 20 knots (60% of the time) so I want to be able to drop the main to a reef point easily. Tom B. Hi Doug, I am about directly across the Gulf from you in Rockport, Tx. Just a littttttle bit closer and we could go sailing on the weekends. There is another Monty in Corpus Christi but the fellow has it in storage. Boooooo! Actually used to sail with a Monty 23 in Galveston. It was fun trying to stay in front of him. Oh well, his boat looked fine from the back end too. Good luck with your program. Fair winds, Tom

Carol, Welcome to the MSOG. It is quite a site for info about restoration and enjoying your boat. I am still on the Gulf Coast with my second M-17. It will take lots of work to make her look and perform the way I want but it will be worth it. They are amazing boats. Good luck with your boat.

Hi, my name is Carol and I grew up sailing a Montgomery 17 along the Gulf Coast of Tx with my dad. After he passed, the boat sat for nearly 15 years, but I'm proud to report that she has been resurected! Although I had not sailed in over 20 years, my husband and I have made it our mission to make her seaworthy and learn to sail her. We are in Michigan and we primarily stick to inland lakes, but look forward to gaining enough experience and confidence to tackle the Great Lakes! And what an amazing boat! We are overwhelmed by the compliments we get on her.
