I just installed a Westline ladder on my 1982 M15 #208, and when I drilled the mounting holes in the transom it seemed like there was no plywood transom support, just what looked to be balsa between two layers of fiber glass. Now I am wondering if the transom is strong enough to support a boarding ladder. I know other older M15's have ladders, but not if they were installed on similarly constructed transoms. Looking back under the cockpit with the foam flotation blocks removed, I can see thick panels where the motor mount, rudder, and boarding ladder would go. Using calipers and my inspection port, I know these are about 1 inch thick. The surrounding material is about 1/8 inch thick, which must be just fiberglass. So, Jerry or Bob, can you tell me how the transom was made, and is it strong enough for a ladder? I installed a backup plate of 1/2 inch plywood. Thanks, Bob Becker 1982 M15 #208 San Francisco area
