I was watching the Price is Right yesterday (could be a re-run possibly) and in one of the final showcase's there was a beauty of a red Monty 15. Before it was announced, the distinctive lines and style gave it away. I immediately wished I still had my Montgomery 17. I had to sell it a few years back because I had shoulder surgery and didn't want to have it sit for the recovery. So many nice days on the SF bay…and no boat currently. After ~1.5 years of scanning Craigslist on a weekly basis, reading a lot of reviews, forums, and watching plenty of youtube videos, I finally made the decision and bought a Montgomery 15. I mostly learned to sail on Rhodes 19s with Courageous Sailing in Boston Harbor, so the idea of having a trailerable sailboat which points well and sails more like a keelboat than a dinghy pretty much sold me (the M-15 isn't hard on the eyes either)!
I will be sailing lakes in the NW mostly (Coeur d'Alane, Dworshak, Pend Oreille) but was really intrigued by rumors of a Montgomery-owners San Juan Islands get together. Is this event still being held?
I bought the boat from an older gentleman in Oregon who had only owned it for a year and had purchased it from someone in the PNW who had made a number of upgrades/modifications/additions for cruising (and also appears to have kept it in immaculate condition). The boat's name is "Venga Viento", hull number #272, built in 1984. If anyone happens to know any history about the boat I would be interested to learn more. Welcome to the group and to sailing in the PNW. I coordinated the annual June San Juan Islands cruise for a span of about 10 years. During the 2013 cruise I announced my retirement as trip leader, hoping some one else would pick up the ball, but no one has stepped forward. I still sail the islands at least once a year, usually twice, with a small group of friends. There are other groups that also sail the islands annually and if you can establish an inside connection, you may be able to join one of these. I live in the inland northwest and sail many of the same lakes you listed, my favorites being Priest and Pend Oreille. Keep in touch and maybe we can get some sailing in together. There are a few other Montgomery sailors in the area as well, mostly based out of the Bitter End Marina on Pend Oreille Lake.
I also have a little knowledge of Venga Viento. I've forgotten the gentlemans name who sailed her, but I ran across him on Pend Oreille Lake back when I was first getting started. Beautiful boat. As I recall lhe had several articles in the old original Montgomery Newsletter - which has long been out of print. Somewhere, I believe on the MSOG.org website, there are scanned copies of the old newsletter. With any luck you will be able to read how-to articles that feature your "new" boat!

I recommend Conkling Park on the S. end if you sail Lake Coeur d' Alene , found that the prices at that end of the lake are much more affordable than the places closer to town. However, I will caution that that road into and out of Conkling Park is steep so use a tow vehicle with adequate brakes and horsepower. There is also another M-boat owner, an M-17 , who lives near Conkling Park. I'd sure be in for a San Juan's cruise myself.???? I have a friend who owns a house on Whidbey Island and we are planning to do some sailing this summer (My first in salt water!) and I'm slowlygetting prepared for it.
I was in Fern Ridge Reservoir on Thursday and had the whole lake to myself!?? The season there has officially started as there is 4 feet of water next to the docks.?? (they drain the lakein the winter)?? So that's another place in the NW open for business. Larry.

Welcome Sam! And congratulations. That's a very sweet looking M15. I'm down in the south end of the PNW/Cascadia bioregion, in Ashland, OR, with my M-17 "Pajarita" (1974, #38). I figure at some point all the Montys with Spanish names should get together... :-)
I do plan to get to the San Juans, and some of those inland NW lakes, in next few years, but no firm plans yet, will let y'all know what shapes up and try to connect up where possible. It sounds like there's Monty folks scattered around from Puget Sound through eastern WA and into northern ID (I've got a cousin in the vicinity of Cour D'Alene). And I want to sail on Flathead lake, I spent three seasons (winters, teaching snowsports) at Big Mountain (now Whitefish Mountain) in Whitefish, MT decades ago.

Had my M-15 on Lake Pend O'reille a few times, but did not manage to get to Priest Lake before moving to the wet side of the state and now sail on South Puget Sound. Found lake sailing easier than saltwater, also less maintenance on the trailer and motor, however there are many M-boats over here. Steve M-15 # 335

Looking at the pix of your boat, I notice what looks like a micro-cruiser sized bow roller angling off one side of the bow. What's the make & model of that, if you know? And is it for anchor, or something else?

I bought the boat from an older gentleman in Oregon who had only owned it for a year and had purchased it from someone in the PNW who had made a number of upgrades/modifications/additions for cruising (and also appears to have kept it in immaculate condition). The boat's name is "Venga Viento", hull number #272, built in 1984. If anyone happens to know any history about the boat I would be interested to learn more.
