Mine is an '81. I'm 6'2" and 180 lbs. I have wriggled into "openings" under both cockpit seats. I removed the stock motor mount and replaced it with an adjustable bolted through the transom on the port side and later bolted on a step on the starboard side. Gravity pulls you tightly into the wedge formed by the bracing securing the cockpit shell to the hull. Each job took no more than five minutes to remove and/or place the stainless steel nuts. It took at least 30 minutes to self-extract the 180 lb nut after both jobs. Rather than trying to construct a narrow shelf for a bed under the seats, consider putting Junior in the bow and Mom and Pop sleeping across the top of the V berth. Hopefully, the adults are not real tall and Junior will not have to go potty more times than Mom. You could add another foot and a half or so to the wide end of the V-birth to give you more bed.
