When Dolphin's flooded batteries died last winter I replaced them with AGM batteries. They were expensive, but I hope that they'll last longer and the placement of the batteries means it's difficult to get at them for maintenance or replacement. One reason for not going with gel-cells is that they need different charging voltages, and the bronze-age alternator regulator on my old Yanmar 2GM doesn't understand that kind of thing. West Marine has some information about batteries at http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/WestAdvisorDisplayView?s toreId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&advisor=459.htm . Giles Morris
