MC, I'm in the battery back up business and a quality gel-AGM battery will outperform a "wet" battery tremendously. A wet batt is constructed for high current discharge for a short period of time (starter). A gel deep-cycle is constructed for slower discharge over an extended period of time.(house) Be careful how you charge a sealed battery, 14.1VDC max, and a smart charger to ramp down current.
