Matt, Aesthetics in this case trump brain cells; I would rather wear a hard hat in the cabin than give up the bronze. Just know you have the best looking 17' sailboat made since the old wooden hull days. As for maintaining bronze, I haven't touched the ports on my Nor'Sea 27 in 30 years, and the green looks great. I enjoy their look, and they are the aspect of the boat most commented on by passers-by. I don't bother much to keep them polished, except when I can bribe my 8 year-old son to do the work. Inside the cabin, though, the knobs that hold the things closed do some damage, as my skull must be some kind of bronze magnet. If I were to do it all over, I'd probably pass on the opening ports in favor of saving a few brain cells! Matt,
Our boats sound quite similar in appearance. Are your opening ports round as they are in mine, or did you get oval ones?
