I put a Honda 2 hp long-shaft on my M-17 when I got it last summer, and it does a great job both for maneuvering around the marina and for transits in calm water at near to hull speed.? I also haven't used it rough water or heavy wind (and hope not to have to).? It's huge advantage is that it only weights 27 lb.? Any higher hp engine I found ups the weight to the 50 - 60 lb range.? It also has neutral where it will idle with the screw disengaged, and rotates through 360 deg for backing up.? It sips gas - a gallon will last for hours. It's probably true that the 2 isn't beefy enough for very rough conditions and strong tides, but where I sail, I believe it would be perfect for the reasons you mention. Now if I could just find a nice used one... tom On Feb 4, 2008 4:36 PM, Tom Jenkins tjenk@gte.net> wrote: > Hello M-sters, > > > > Has anyone out there with a fully-loaded (electrical system, etc.) > late-model M17 tried to push it with a 2 hp outboard?
