Not to mention reduced initial stability (stemming from reduced waterplane area). How about THIS idea?: Lapstrake ABOVE the waterline for looks Smooth BELOW for easier bottom cleaning

I think that's the bottom line, in my opinion. Lyle told me once that he didn't totally approve of the NS stern and would rather have had a transom. In one of my old, old boat design books the writer talks about them and says that the reason is strength (in a planked boat), and that the stern might help part following waves (kind of like Moses). jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Wickett" <billwick@gmail.com> To: "For and about Montgomery Sailboats" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 12, 2009 9:22 AM Subject: Re: M_Boats: more market research!
Cockpit and locker space would be compromised somewhat. I also believe that a transom stern will be somewhat faster.

Ooooh I hadn't thought of a canoe stern, kinda like a Nordica 16? http://www.nordicaboats.com/html/nordica-16.html
That might be neat.

Yes, lapstrake, and the trim hasn't been decided yet. First things
