Mast sections carry with them the weight /ft designation so a person may use this info to determine the effect of the spar on the righting moment. If a person would be looking for a replacement spar or to change shapes or length of said spar this information is needed and helpful. Or if a person is designing a boat and needs a section to meet design criteria. This is akin to tire data when one decides to change the size of your tires. Who needs to know the diameter (read: who cares) of your 185/60-15 tire? the person that is interested in changing the type/size/width of the tires on a car.
I really just want the info to impress nonsailors with the fact I know the wt/ft of the stick thing. Sounds like good conversation for my date at the Chihuly opening next Thursday at the art museum, or I am a weak weenie and don't want to try to lift that thing til I watch another season of Jack LaLane! Or I am bored.
I want to know and they will not hide it from us!
