Yes, good advice. A monty 17 is tough to climb back into, especially when you are cold and out of breath from the cold immersion. I have a four step ss telescoping ladder that is totally above the water line when retracted and yet when the velcro is released from the water, slides down into the water at least 18 inches so you don't have to struggle to get that first step. I also installed a couple of stand off blocks on the transom under the ladder supports so when the ladder is deployed they hold it out slightly from the hull to make up for the roll of a man's weight causing the top of the transom to lean out over the ladder causing a problem with climbing back aboard. Pics are in the Msog Photosite under "AS IS", my Monty 17, 1977. Fair winds, Tom B On Mon, Apr 1, 2019 at 6:42 PM Burton Lowry <burtonlowry7@gmail.com> wrote:
Looks good! Not sure what you coated it with, but a good epoxy barrier coat is smart if that isn't epoxy. (Epoxy, if you don't know, is photochemically reactive, but the CB won't be in the sun. At least not much, we hope!) Gerry, I haven't seen pics of your boat, but I do hope you have a transom ladder or steps, or will be installing such before sailing. (We live in an area where a lobsterman fell in one morning...cold water...no way back into his boat and drowned. Happens every year or so here.)
