Julie and I spend a week in the NE corner of Georgian Bay on Lake Huron, off of the mouth of the French River. A beautiful part of the Sweetwater Sea. We launched at Britt and anchored for the first night at the mouth of Bying inlet. Second day we were able to sail in light wind, then motor, then more sailing north up the Bay (outside)to the Bustard Islands (16NM). Stayed for 4 days. Only one morning with rain. Great place to explore with the dinghy. Headed south on day 5. Sailed and then motored south on the buoyed small craft channel (inside). That was a particularly windy day. The channel is too narrow in may places to sail safely. Some places you have a channel about 40 feet width with rock both sides. Always watching for the next buoy and checking the depth sounder. Would not be fun in a larger boat. Winds topped out just over 25 knots that day. The Honda worked very well. Did have a problem with reverse gear popping out. Was able to adjust the linking rods and it is fine now. We were glad to have the protection of the inner small craft channel. Would not have been pretty on the outside. Met up with some other small boat friends in Black Bay and stayed there for 2 nights. Last day we spent with some friends with their Sirius 21, on the hook, swimming and lazing, making the perfect day s-t-r-e-t-c-h out as long as possible. Hauled out about 5:00 pm, and were backed in the driveway just at midnight.
