Hello George, We just pulled, sandblasted and refinished our iron centerboard. The trunk was perfect- no swelling. no marine growth and a perfect trunk to hull seam. When we first sailed the boat the board would not come down, it was just rust and crud on the board. If the boat you are considering has been in freezing conditions it would be worth pulling the board to check the inside of the trunk for swelling. Ron and Cathryn Goodspeed 1974 M17 #025 "hula pie"
