Hi all, After ~1.5 years of scanning Craigslist on a weekly basis, reading a lot of reviews, forums, and watching plenty of youtube videos, I finally made the decision and bought a Montgomery 15. I mostly learned to sail on Rhodes 19s with Courageous Sailing in Boston Harbor, so the idea of having a trailerable sailboat which points well and sails more like a keelboat than a dinghy pretty much sold me (the M-15 isn't hard on the eyes either)! I will be sailing lakes in the NW mostly (Coeur d'Alane, Dworshak, Pend Oreille) but was really intrigued by rumors of a Montgomery-owners San Juan Islands get together. Is this event still being held? I bought the boat from an older gentleman in Oregon who had only owned it for a year and had purchased it from someone in the PNW who had made a number of upgrades/modifications/additions for cruising (and also appears to have kept it in immaculate condition). The boat's name is "Venga Viento", hull number #272, built in 1984. If anyone happens to know any history about the boat I would be interested to learn more. Hi Pete and Steve, Nice to meet you both! I wonder if you've ever launched from Rocky Point or Chatcolet? Both are just a bit south of Conkling but have the distinct advantage of being free (if you have an Idaho Parks Pass). I sailed out of both of them a number of times last summer with a little dinghy, and mostly they weren't bad (only an occasional motorboat with enough wake to make the dinghy a bit risky). Hi David and Dave and Connie, Yes that is what I was told as well, apparently the main sheet was originally located in a way that somewhat blocked access to the companionway, and took up cockpit space. The arch in the back in combination with a block/cleat combo apparently allows the main-sheet to be attached there, clearing up the cockpit but otherwise functioning as well as the original setup (I posted a few additional photos if anyone is interested). I haven't actually rigged the boat yet, so I don't have any more details than that. Hi Larry, Thanks for the link to the old news letter that is pretty cool! The boat came with a large plastic bag full of Montgomery Newsletter articles and other clippings, I guess I will have to go over them more carefully. I am glad to hear that there are still a lot of people sailing in the area, but sad to hear that I missed the annual cruise in the San Juans. It would be a lot of fun to go with a knowledgeable group! With any luck I'll spend most weekends sailing this summer, it would be awesome to meet you in person on Pend Oreille or Priest lake. My wife and I camped up near Priest lake a few summers back, it is beautiful. montgomery boats on "Price is Right"

I was watching the Price is Right yesterday (could be a re-run possibly) and in one of the final showcase's there was a beauty of a red Monty 15. Before it was announced, the distinctive lines and style gave it away. I immediately wished I still had my Montgomery 17. I had to sell it a few years back because I had shoulder surgery and didn't want to have it sit for the recovery. So many nice days on the SF bay…and no boat currently. Well, maybe I'll finally get that Flicka I've wanted or another Monty or a Sage next. When I replaced the standing rigging on our Montgomery 15 a couple of years ago, I had a hard time getting a hold of Jerry Montgomery. Dave Scobie at Sage Marine was very helpful and made some nice new rigging for our boat. M17 tiller extension questions

Hi all, Contemplating getting a tiller extension for my M17. If you have one, what length works good for you? I'm thinking a fixed length one, but would be open to reasons why a telescoping one is worth the extra $$.
