I’ve been thinking about doing the Leach Lake Regatta in N MN. I went once, probably in’79 or maybe ‘80, sailed on a M-23, and had a great time. I just took a look at the website for the results for this year (Aug 15-17) and there were no Montgomery's or Sages. In fleet 1, the smallest one, the smallest boat was a Cape Dory Typhone (2nd place), which is a neat boat but no match for an M or S, but this race was on handicap, PHRF. My question is: Do any of you fellow wrinklebote sailors have an interest in going in 2017? If so, I’d be inclined to think seriously about it myself. I know that there are a good number of 17’s in that area. Let me know if you are interested; don’t need commitments, obviously. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. Oooh, looking at the pics, mine has been "altered". The corner of the trunk is roughly cut out and the line exits there. It doesn't have the clean, neat plastic sleeve. It's just a biggish hole. Also my winch is to the right of the cleat, so the line has to go over the cleat and then down through the hole. The water doesn't drain anywhere, just sits on the sole and tries to rot the wood at the base of the v berth. So I towel it out. Yes. Thanks for the reference, Dave. I don't think I pump up my Bearing Buddies too much but I do get some grease coming out of them and getting here and there. It is likely time to replace the seals. One thing I am completely naive about is rebuilding trailer hubs. I assume bearings, bearing races, and seals are all replaceable at the same time and by an amateur such as myself, but I don't have a clue where to get the parts or how to know what to get. I could image the races may require some special equipment. Can anyone share any experiences or provide any advice? Thanks. DON'T overcharge them. With a lot of help from those on this list, particularly Stan Sussman (hope I spelled that right), a year and a half ago I removed the bottom paint on my Montgomery 15. What a miserable process. But I like the bottom now. I wholeheartedly agree about avoiding bottom paint if you can! If you can, avoid bottom paint. If you can't, use copolymer (a/k/a self-polishing) paint. Someone else mentioned a barrier coat. If your gelcoat is in good condition you DO NOT need that. The usual practice is to use hard paint the first season and then let that act as a guide coat under self-polishing paint of a different color in subsequent seasons. When the hard paint starts to show through the self-polishing paint, it is time to recoat. Also, when you first paint gelcoat, you must thoroughly clean AND dewax it, no matter how old the boat is.

A paddler/sailor/rower paradise, with boat-in camping various places around the lake and three USFS campgrounds all with ramps and docks on the east side, (two just closed for the season, one still open another week or so). You can see it on google maps satellite view/google earth...Waldo Lake, OR. We took advantage of a handful of days of late summer heat wave to have 70's in the day and high 40's at night up there at around 5000 ft. Glassy in the AM & early afternoon, but some very nice sailing from about 2:30 on to suppertime. I kayak camped some years ago there and definitely wanted to get Pajarita in the water there this season...just in time! Overall with that wind pattern a better lake for sail-row camp cruisers, or something like my friend Keith's Hobie Adventure Island tri with both the sail & pedal drive options (he was able to tow me in the doldrums, albeit rather slowly). And, I think it can be breezy all day sometimes, this was just what we had for this trip. An early morning kayaker reported a bout of whitecaps on his way back to the campground at something like 9 AM the second day. Will post a few pics when I get them off the camera. Should have taken some of my anchor placements, you can see the bottom and everything on it very clearly 30+ feet down. cheers, John S.

We have thought about putting our M-17 2005 into Salt Water at Bodega Bay. What do we need to do to protect it from Salt Water. Take it out, how often (?) to pressure wash the bottom. What about the mast. It is unpainted aluminum? Do we need to get it painted? What else? Gail Russell Hydeaway1 M-17
