I’ve been thinking about doing the Leach Lake Regatta in N MN. I went once, probably in’79 or maybe ‘80, sailed on a M-23, and had a great time. I just took a look at the website for the results for this year (Aug 15-17) and there were no Montgomery's or Sages. In fleet 1, the smallest one, the smallest boat was a Cape Dory Typhone (2nd place), which is a neat boat but no match for an M or S, but this race was on handicap, PHRF. My question is: Do any of you fellow wrinklebote sailors have an interest in going in 2017? If so, I’d be inclined to think seriously about it myself. I know that there are a good number of 17’s in that area. Let me know if you are interested; don’t need commitments, obviously. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. Oooh, looking at the pics, mine has been "altered". The corner of the trunk is roughly cut out and the line exits there. It doesn't have the clean, neat plastic sleeve. It's just a biggish hole. Also my winch is to the right of the cleat, so the line has to go over the cleat and then down through the hole. The water doesn't drain anywhere, just sits on the sole and tries to rot the wood at the base of the v berth. So I towel it out. jib calculator & outhaul video

Tidying up my sails, finally doing some measuring... My "small" jib is not the 109% standard or working M17 jib, it's quite a bit smaller. Here's one calculator I found: http://sailingfortuitous.com/apps/jibcalc.html This and other similar formulas found online put it at about 81-82% (luff 189", leach 160", foot 76"). In between a working jib and a true (like 60-65%) storm jib. Also played with the outhaul method shown in that video I posted recently. Really a good idea AFAICT. Works as clew strap and outhaul both; automagically balances the angle of pull on the clew. And, makes it much easier to move that same outhaul line to a different reef grommet - no need to tie or untie any knots on flapping sail in bouncing boat. Just loose the outhaul, pull out of current grommet & block, route back through new grommet & block & make fast. With a boltrope or slug footed sail of course. Trailer Set Up

I have had problems retrieving the Boat on the trailer of not getting on the rollers for proper support. I have bunks and 3 rollers for keel support along with a Keel guidance system copied from one of the MON articles. On my previous boat a Person 23CB I had a bunk that supported the keel. What is common on Montgomery trailer set ups? Has anyone had experience converting a M15 trailer to a keel bunk support? Pros,Cons George "We Can Not Control the Wind But We Can Adjust Our Sails"

Headstay Tension

This was my first season sailing with a Jib Furler (Harken Small Boat Furler) I measured the 1 piece headstay prior to having the Jib converted so that the final assembly of Jib and Furler measured the same. I noticed that the headstay appeared looser than when sailing with the hank on Jib. I do have the ability to shorten the headstay as I have a turnbuckle placed between the Jib and bottom Furler. Q: How tight should I be going with the headstay. I presently have about a 5"-6" mast rake. Is 1"-2" rake to little rake? Measured my "big" jib yesterday. Bag says it's the "cruising" genoa. Dimensions plugged into sail calculator say it's a ~150% jib. It has a fairly large window, not unusually high but fairly long, and, quite high up. Too high to be functional, seems to me. Sitting in the cockpit, the view through the window is of the tallest treetops on the shore (if there are tall trees on the shore...). And I'm pretty tall, so for anyone shorter the view would be even higher. Maybe really tall rigs would be spotted before collision...not small boats or mast-less boats though. I can't figure out why a window would be put so high. Anyone have something like this on their jib? Raystown Lake w/my M15

took my M15 to Raystown Lake in Penna. last Monday; the lake is void of houses, and at this time of year, you'll see at most only a handful of boats out, if any; stayed out on the water till Saturday morning; anchored in a cove each night, having the place to myself each time the coves are well sheltered and only one night did I feel the need to drop a 2nd anchor, just in case on two of the mornings woke to thick solid fog; tho it was in the 30s outside, because the water was warm, the cabin only got down to into the 50s, which is tolerable if you put enough layers on the water is incredibly deep at Raystown, with steep shores, so pretty much wherever you drop the hook, even if you're only 15 feet from shore, you're working with 20 to 40 feet of depth, even that close to shore; you really can't get any farther than about 20 feet from shore, because from that distance, you're dealing with a depth of 80 to 100 feet. consequently, you've got to hope the forecast is right, and that wind will be coming offshore during the wee hours, so that things don't go bump in the night, as in, your nice gelcoat finish getting messed with by the rocks that line the shore with the trees changing colors and 5 to 10 mph breezes most days, the sailing was top shelf and the scenery has you wondering what you did right to deserve to see it
