Hi, My name is Michael Mann and in 1982, I sailed the Montgomery 15, Little Breeze from CA to Hawaii. I see on the web site that she has been rescued by new owners in Hawaii and I would love to correspond with them. Good Old Boat article

Hello, Good Old Boat magazine is planning a review of the Montgomery 17. We will be contacting owners of M-17s to collect comments about their experience with the boat. In addition, we need to find at least one owner in the Seattle/Bellingham area willing to sail his or her boat for a photo shoot under way, as well as allow us to come aboard for a brief sail and photography session that will preferably include a ramp launch and recovery. If possible, we’d also like to photograph boats from each primary era (three berth/galley w/cast iron centerboard, three and 3/4 berth Jerry Montgomery model w/lead & f.g. centerboard, etc., as well as examples of the more recent Nor'sea/Montgomery Boats models). Test sails and photo shoots will be scheduled between mid-August and late September 2013, as mutually convenient. If you are willing to participate in our owner survey, please reply by email to oldferdj(a)yahoo.com. If you have a boat in the Seattle/ Bellingham area that you are willing to provide for a photo shoot and test sail, please include a bit of information about the boat and your phone number in the email. New Member Question Re: Centerboard on my M-17

I have a 1981 M-17 and the centerboard will not drop because it has rusted in place. After having taken it to two different marinas here in Michigan, with no luck from either of them on getting it down, I'm getting a little frustrated. One of them suggested contacting someone who owns a sandblaster. Does anyone have any advise? Thanks! Carol B

Dave, It's my understanding that both marinas used some sort of chemical solution and just beat the heck out of it from the side of the keel to try to loosen it up. I spoke with a fella at Montgomery boats and he suggested prying a metal rod into the top until you can work through it. The only other suggestion was to go in through the hull...sounds like a $3500 fix! It has been like that for a good 15 years I would imagine. It sat in my sisters yard in Tx until I picked it up a couple years ago. Any suggestions a good chemical solution to use? Someone else suggested liquid wrench. We've been sailing in light winds and we're ok. Just not able to get into anything too exciting! Carol B

Carol, Doug, I can further attest to the expertise of Hooper's in Afton, Mn. They have worked on both of my M Boats, and have done fabulous work. They know the Montgomery line well. Their fiberglass man, David, is an absolute guru. Fortunately, I have not had to deal with a swelling trunk on my 1976 M17. Theo had the issue with his M23, and Hooper's put it right. FWIW. Pins to hold forestay

Went sailing today with Louie H after not being able to sail last week due to poor weather conditions motor was working after repair. I have not had opportunity to talk to shop as to what was wrong. Left dock under power and used new paddle to get into proper position to get out into lake (no reverse on 3 HP motor) and raise sail. Winds light and variable 1-4 K from the ENE one stretch of wind blowing 5-8K gusting to10.6 k. Sailed both arms of the lake and returned to dock. Sailed into slip under Jib alone:-) Meet new, to sailing, couple from Michigan City, rigging a '76' Catalina 22 getting ready to launch passed along some information as to rigging and launching. Felt real bad about not being able to stay and help launch. They plan on being at the lake tomorrow hope to see them then. George 'We Can Not Control the Wind But We Can Adjust our Sails'
