Weight of Pacific Trailer

Montypals: I have a Pacific trailer that looks like the new stock trailers for the M15. It has a trailer extension and keel guide. Any idea how much this thing weighs? Daniel M15 #208 Kestrel

Thanks Jerry. Good luck with the knee surgery. GO and Dave S: We're going to have to keep an eye on Stan cause if he keeps leaping across boats like in Monterey he'll be joining the knee replacement club with JM. Stan that torpedo keel of yours on the 17 really did well out there! Jerry, now that you're back from Africa, is the next Sage going to be decked out in Zebra stripes? hahaha -Neil ps launching in Benicia next Saturday and sailing towards Suisun Bay and mothball fleet again with the Potter Yachters; that should be a good time. My "admiral" is coming along so I hope the ride back isn't too wet or I'll have hell to pay ;-)

Curious for everyone (M15 sailors) to sound off where you set the mast rake? I have been sailing TwoCan with the mast about 5-8 degrees aft. It would seem to me that this would provide better pointing performance and less weather helm, but giving up some peformance on a run. What I experienced in Monterey was I was really fighting the tiller after rounding the bouy, and I know from looking over the transom it wasn't kelp stuck on my rudder. Oh, and my foresail that day was a lapper. Jerry: I'm thinking about a way to rig a back stay with a turnbuckle to adjust just a little more bend in the mast. I know you designed the M15 to not require one, but have you ever heard of anyone making that modification? Thanks, -Neil

Lead weight?

M15 #200, Wee Fun I was reading Jerry's piece in the latest Small Craft about blue-water boats and it got me wondering something. Would there be any advantage to adding some lead weights in the lower trough in the hull of my M15. (the place where water bottles always seem to roll into) I happen to have about 70 pounds of lead and I thought this might let me keep the main full a little longer before having to reef. It's not a lot of weight but it would be very low in the hull, like the concrete filled keel in the Compac 16. Is this a dumb idea, I don't know. I imagine if it were a good idea Jerry would have done that when he built these. Kevin Lynch

I posted the first video I created from clips and stills on Youtube if anyone is interested. The video is of my Montgomery 15 sailing on Hunnington Lake, Florence Lake, Courtright Reservoir, and Wishon Reservoir in July 2010. I couldn't figure out how to import videos from the San Francisco Bay part of the trip into the video. These are some great lakes for sailing. My favorite was Courtright. CB stopper pin

Hi folks, Tomorrow is "replace my frayed CB pendent "day. I will lift the stern of my M-17 from some beams in my friends barn. I looked today for any indication for the 3/8" stopper pin where the CB's hook comes to rest. Is there a measurement from the pivot bolt ? I will keep searching tomorrow. Also it needs to be driven out from port to Starboard ? or visa versa ? Thanks, Doug Vogel Tie Line #325

Mark, that sounds like a magical sail indeed.Thanks for sharing the story. What river are you referring to? You and Roberta are up in Oregon, right? Sailing out of Newport? With a forecast of winds at 10-15 and a high of about 90 (actually not too bad for an August day in the Sacramento area), at nearby Folsom Lake, Becky and I decided this morning to take our M15 TwoCan out for a day sail.
