Jake, I pull my M17 with a 2006 Toyota Tacoma V-6.Walk in the park, no issues.As a matter of fact, I even use it to tow my M23 for short distances.My pick-up is rated at 6500 lbs towing capacity. Boat Motor for a Monty15

loose rigging

Hi All, I want to thank everyone for all the different tips on outfitting my M15. I added the TillerClutch, a tiller extension and a boom vang. I also pulled off the handrails and hatch trim and with the heatgun scraped off the old varnish and oiled the teak, looks great. (Toe rails next year.) For the boom vang I put one of Seals Spars stainless step plates under the mast to avoid drilling another hole in it. The thing is really solid and it raised the mast up just enough to make the side stays too tight. I've read Jerry's rigging tips and plan to loosen everything up so I can get some rake in the mast. My question now is, since I leave the boat at a mooring, do I have to worry about any damage from the mast flopping around with such loose rigging? Should I just tighten up the forestay when I'm done sailing? It gets pretty rough out there at times. Kevin Lynch M15 #200, Wee Fun

Gaps in hatch cover

I've used the paper towel stuff that Tod mentioned, probably got the idea from him. I noticed that another source of mosquito entry is the forward end of the hatch. Whether open or closed those persistent little guys find a way in through the gaps under the slide. I tried taking off the sliding hatch and putting a piece of stick on foam between the hatch flange and the hatch stop (on cabin top). This was moderately successful, but not 100% effective and made it difficult to close the hatch all the way to cover the drop boards. On my new boat I installed stick on Velcro on the interior all around the hatch (13 feet). Then we made screen with Velcro around the perimeter. Laboratory (my back yard) trials look promising. The cabin interior is completely sealed off from outside regardless of the position of the hatch slide. One downside to this method is you have to buy two sets of whatever length of Velcro you need. You see, you can't use "Stick On Velcro" to sew on to fabric. My wife developed a major attitude when the glue started to gum up the needle and bobbin of her quilting machine. I almost lost my labor force. So you must use one side that is sewable and the other side stick-on. KIWI GRIP anti skid and new Sails from YAGER

With a bit of angst on changing out the original anti skid I have renewed my decks on s/v Cerulea - a 1974 M17 #32. I used a great product in KIWI GRIP And, since I now have excellent new sails in Egyptian Cream from YAGER SAILS, I went with the cream color. My recovery from shoulder surgery is all that is holding me back....another month and friends can help crew.

Hi Robbin, The rudder rod on my M23 is a solid threaded piece made of Monel. It was fabricated by former owner Dick Lane and thus it is non-stock.I'm quite surprised to hear yours is hollow. a slip of my own

Wife and I put Pilgrim in her new slip and what do you know it is right next to another M-17. And just down the way on the same side is another M-15. Lake Pend Oreille is really getting some class.... Took the daughter in law and a couple Grand kids out nice easy sail. Nice to be able to go at a moments notice. Looks like we will be in Bayview full time by early August. Should be doing some racing before then though. Trailer Jacks

Monty Pals: Wonderful sail yesterday at Tomales. Blowing about 15 knots. I had a single reef in the main, and maybe could have used another, but the boat just handles great. On occasion got her healed 30 degrees, and she stiffened right up. Making speed of 5.0-5.1 knots most of the time. Fun. I'm learning this boat gradually. But, I had to swap out my Fulton trailer jack that froze with another Fulton jack that came with the boat. It works poorly also. I have had similar bad experience with these jacks with my other boats. Problem is, I dunk the whole thing in the salt water when launching. No way around that. So, I am going to replace the current jack with another one. Thoughts here? Who has something that can survive, or at least is easy to service? I do need the wheel to roll the thing around, so the vertical ones without a wheel won't work for me. Daniel M15 #208 "Kestrel"
