Jerry, With your desire for a sporting performance using modern materials and construction, on your new design, may I suggest a decent arrangement by which to rest my butt and hike? The M15 for all of her performance is a real pain in the...butt to hike from. Trying to hike w/o a strap and using the opposite thwart for my feet, the coaming can quickly cripple a six footer like me when trying to go fast. Even with a 'jerry' rigged hiking strap, my feet are so dangling out in space that it's very unsettling. Okay, I really do like the high coamings on the M15, so I don't know the solution. Lake Champlain information

Some friends with a larger boat on Lake Champlain have invited us to sail with them in 2 weeks (right after Labor Day weekend) I searched through the list archives and found all of Connie's references to sailing there out of Westport and Essex. I also see that Rick Langer and Frank Durant sailed for a week there in 2007. Unfortunately I could not see any trip reports after they came back. Can anyone share any recent information on Lake Champlain sailing? We will be launching at a marina at North Hero on the Vermont side. Any suggested nooks and crannies to anchor in? Any must see points of interest for this trip or others? Thanks, Bill Wickett M17 #622

Neil, Welcome to Monty Ownership! I think you will love the boat. Re. Super Satellites - in 1966 my family bought a used one here in Phx, We sailed it for about six months - (enough to learn how to sail a VERY tender sloop that will fill with water to the gunwales if heeled a BIT!) We also needed a part and were headed toward Lankershim Blvd to secure it when Frank Butler came out of his office to see what he could do to help. He took us back into the shop to show us the yet to be announced Coronado 15 - did we like it? We left that afternoon as the Arizona dealer for Wesco Marine (later to become Catalina Yachts). Our first C- 15 was hull number 25, and when we took delivery Frank and Jean came over to Phoenix and made a presentation( pitch), to the local Super Satellite fleet - trade in your used SS, and for something like $800. you got a new C-15, sails and trailer, the whole fleet bit the bait except one guy and we had an instant fleet - This is how my family got into the boat business in approx. 1966-67. (We raced C-15's number 225,233,1648, last 15 was raced by us in 1996 or so # 3116 I think.) Next was the C-22 (hull # 39) followed by enough of the darn things to keep a good business going and as I have said - to pay for my college education (now what did I do with that education...?) We eventually got C-15 hull # 1 sailing in the local fleet! We once ran our Satellite over a submerged dock while approaching (a storm, shift and an unintended gybe) an overloaded dock (about a foot under water) - did we have time to get the daggerboard up? Nada - put a notch in that dock that was there for good! Boat stopped pretty quickly but didn't pitchpole due to the dock being right under the boat!!! I still feel that in my molars! Cool boats, but the blades and lack of decent bailing made it an unforgiving ride. Enuf of an old guy rant... Have fun with the M-15 as they are GREAT boats and sail like crazy! Cool! I too thought all knowledge of the Super Satellite was lost forever. What a fun--if not very tender--boat that was. I bought mine from someone's backyard, neglected in Venice CA and it did not have a centerboard. Little did I know at the time that the centerboard was cast aluminum and the housing was too narrow to have a board made out of wood. I lucked out...Catalina Yachts pointed me in the direction of the foundry in Burbank that still, unbelievably, had the mold, and the made me one special order. Anyway, when I sold it, I went through a long dry spell of no boat ownership (except a kayak) so now I am in euphoria. Thanks for the welcome. My wife wants to check out Klamath Lake and stay at the Running Y. What do you know about that resort? Is it a suitable location to launch the Monty, sail, and then tie-up for overnights (so we could stay at the resort)? Regards, Neil

New M15 Owner Introduction

Greetings all, I am brand new to the M_Boat scene; just picked up a 1985 M15, ivory with green trim. Boat yet to be named. I will add my boat to the registry shortly. I am based in the Sacramento area and look forward to sharing ideas and making friends with other "trailer sailors", especially locally. I'm not new to sailing; learned on a Sabot as a kid and then sailed a SuperSatellite (pre-runner to C15), and once piloted an Erickson 27 from Lido Island to the Isthmus on Catalina Island with 5 buddies. A humorous story to be shared at another time but suffice to say the trip ended without incident ;-) Anyway, really excited about getting back into sailing after many years without a boat (except a kayak). My wife and I are hoping to be able to attend the Havasu Poker Run but have not signed up yet; too early to clear our work schedules and commit for February 2010. We are also especially interested in linking up for local N. Calif. events particularly Folsom Lake, Oroville, Scotts Flat, Delta (Rio Vista), and when I get enough time on the boat, Monterey Bay and maybe SF Bay (but not the 'slot') Anticipated projects and enhancements include general gelcoat cleanup (it's really not in bad shape at all, just a few cosmetic scratches); clean, sand, and oil the teak trim; install fold-up swim ladder; and maybe some cockpit cushions...all in due time. Any idea, comments, suggestions are welcome Fair Winds, Neil and Becky in Roseville CA
